1. After talking with Rick this morning, I still like the idea of the of a "formal" component to the dresscode. Maybe not as a when people come to visit St. Luke's but if certain groups or organizations would like our students to dress better. For exampe, if the basketball/lacrosse coach would like the team to wear jackets and ties to an away game or for in school. He/She can simply say to wear the formal dresscode. The same can go for musical performances. Rather than having the kids wear black on the bottom and white on top, just simply wear the formal dresscode. This will, I think, breed more consistency and more appropriateness.
  2. Again in talking with Rick who brought up the idea of possibly having a separate dresscode for the middle and upper schools. Maybe having Polo's etc. for the middle school and oxfords and ties for the upper school.
    • this could create a "perceived" separation between the schools which could possibly help with the transition between upper and middle school
    • create a "seriousness" to the upper school that may be lacking

From Ginny - I also like the idea of the separation of dress code by school - not only does it create a "perceived" difference but also a "perceived" seriousness (which is often a mis-perception that SLS has from the outside, i.e. we are not rigorous/challenging enough.)

Would there then be one formal dress code for all? If all departments can agree to the formal dress code and its uses, then I think it is a nice option. It's the question of use - when, how often.
